Newer Initiatives: Population based screening (PBS) for NCDs namely diabetes, hypertension and common cancers (oral, breast and cervix) has been expanded to more than 400 districts. Screening is being provided through trained frontline workers (ASHA & ANM) and suspected cases are referred to Medical Officers at PHC.
To address the huge burden of mental disorders and shortage of qualified professionals in the field of mental health, Government of India has been implementing National Mental Health Program (NMHP) since 1982. The district Mental Health Program was added to the Program in 1996.
NCDC has also received approval for starting two new courses i.e. Master in Public Health (Medical Entomology & Vector Management) and Post Graduate Advanced Diploma in Public Health Entomology. It also conducts a number of short courses of duration for 1 week to 3 months.
