  2. Attaching Ducts to a Heat-Pump Water Heater

    www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/article/attaching-ducts-heat-pump-water-heater

Most heat-pump water heaters incorporate both of these components — the heat pump and the insulated tank — into a single unit, with the heat pump compressor mounted above the insulated tank. This type of water heater is typically installed in a basement, mechanical room, or (in warm climates) in an attached garage.

    1) Anyone have luck with DIY compressor blanket for their Rheem/Ruud proterra hybrid water heater? The one that came with mine (2024) is a joke. 2) Anyone have a picture of the “foam kit” Rheem makes ( <Part #SP21173 )?

  4. Noisy Rheem Hybrid Water Heater - GreenBuildingAdvisor

Yesterday my wife and I replaced our old hot water heater with a Rheem hybrid. The hot water closet is located off of a hallway next to our kitchen in the center of our house. I turn the unit on and the heat pump turned on and the noise was like that of a loud hair dryer. The water closet is in the center of the first floor of our house.

The benefit of a heat-pump water heater is that you get at least twice as much hot water from each kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed as you get from a standard electric water heater. The Energy Factors of these units range from 2.0 to 2.5–meaning that they are, effectively, 200% to 250% efficient at converting electricity into heat.

Rheem (unit C) chose to ensure hot water delivery over ultimate efficiency. (see the charts on pg 51 and pg 56) The Stiebel Eltron (unit D) behaved more like what you are desiring with very little (if any) resistive operation, which helps system efficiency in certain contexts.

  7. A New Generation of Heat-Pump Water Heaters is on the Way

Inlet T was ~80F and outlet is ~122F. I'm in Tucson and room temp right now is ~80F. My only hot water use is for showering (est 2 gal/min * 20 min) and dish washing (5 gal in machine, 5 gal misc), clothes washing is all cold, except for rare occasions. So for a back-of-the-envelope calculation let's say hot water consumption is 50 gal/day.

  8. Hybrid Heat Pump Water Heater: Rheem vs Bradford White

    www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/question/hybrid-heat-pump-water-heater-rheem-vs...

Hello, we’re deciding between the 65 gal Rheem Performance Platnum vs Bradford White Aerotherm heat pump water heaters. We have a family friend contractor installing. I’m less interested in the US vs international and cost difference. Most interested in long-haul quality and noise. I also don’t understand the warranty difference.

Potable water connections. In the older model, the cold water inlet and hot water outlet are both on the side of the unit. Since most tank-style electric, natural gas, and propane water heaters have connections on the top, installing the older model means extending piping downward. The…

The efficiency of water heaters is rated by something called the Uniform Energy Factor (UEF). Higher numbers are better, and my HPWH has a UEF of 3.7. (You can see it on the EnergyGuide above.) A standard electric water heater has a UEF of about 0.9, making my HPWH about 4.1 times as efficient.

  11. Heat Pump Water Heater in Combination with Recirculating Pump

    www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/question/heat-pump-water-heater-recirculating-pump

OK. I have another related issue on this topic that I would like to share and hear opinions. I installed a new hybrid water heater (Rheem/Rudd) in combination with a circulation system and recently had problems in heat pump mode with the heat pump running continuously and apparently getting so cold that it could no longer keep the water hot.
