If you want to change or reset the password you use to sign in to Windows, you have different options. This article outlines the different approaches you can take, whether you’re using a Microsoft account or a local account, logged in or at the sign-in screen.
If you know your password, but just want to change it, go to account.microsoft.com Security tab, and select Change my password. If you know your username and password but they have stopped working, read My username and password have stopped working .
From the Password security tile, select Change my password. On the Change your password page, enter your current password and then enter your new password. For additional security, select the optional checkbox which prompts you to update your password every 72 days.
