    The link to details of savings interest held by HMRC has not worked for about two years. If you phone HMRC they will send you full details of all of the figures they have for the year 2019/2020. This is the most recent year for which they have actual data. They will use these figures to estimate amounts for 2021/2022 PAYE tax code purposes.

    When they did this they added themselves as my agent with HMRC and as such the refund cheque was issued to them. Now fast forward a couple of years and I've just had notice from HMRC that I'm owed a small refund of tax for 2022-2023 tax year. In the notice it states they have also notified my "agent" who is the PPI firm I used a few years ago.

    844L to K344 is a large difference and could mean around £200/month extra tax is being deducted. I would say the first step is to check your tax code breakdown to see if you actually agree that 844L is correct. You could also contact HMRC online via your personal tax account.

    I have until January '23 to pay. I've gone online today to make the payment, but when I logged in to Simple Assessment through HMRC website the website says I am all up to date. Either the letter is wrong, or the website is wrong. I am trying to call HMRC to clarify, but can't until Monday. Any advice / similar experiences welcome!

    The individual's full name, date of birth and 6 years of address history would normally be sufficient. HMRC will probably have enough of that to be able to cross reference. The data about individuals is included in the Type 3 records of the annual return, and includes name, address, postcode, NINO (if known), and DOB.
