Wireless headphones fail into two (or three) categories: - Bluetooth - universal, work with most smartphones / tablets, will need Bluetooth transmitter (bought separately) for your TV - FM (radio) or IR (infa-red) - work only with a transmitter they are designed for. Since they are usualy sold as a set, setting up is kind of simpler.
The headphones do have a headphone jack, but when this is used with the TV it takes all of the sound out through the headphones. The benefit of these headphones is that sound can come out of the headphones and TV at the same time enabling him to watch TV with others. Not through HDMI, you need an audio out on the TV and you can get a bluetooth adapter for that to pair your headphones to. Or connect to whatever source you are using to that audio out. Upvote 0 Downvote
Hello - I purchased Sony MDR-ZX22OBT Wireless Headphones and a Netgear N300 WiFi USB Adapter from Target so my father could watch TV with the wireless headphones. The Target employee told me I would need the USB Adapter in order for the headphones to work. They have a Vizio TV and an Apple TV device attached to it.

When the connection is established, a notification of established connection with the headphones will show up. You can begin using your headphones after that.
