And most bought ammo then that was already 20 to 25 years old. which means today they are blasting 45 to 50 year old ammo. {should still be okay} but i know recently some buds been using ww2 stuff. in 45acp, 8mm, 7.9.x33, and 30.06 and some Nippon ammo. 50% would not work.they even used some 43/45 date carbine. with Malfunctions.

Kinda' like the 9mm Parabellum -( 9mm Luger) - that came on the market 123 years ago (+/-) and is, nonetheless, today THE go-to round for everything from bed side self-defense to concealed carry, to Special OPs. sub full auto carbines. And of course the 30-06, .270 Winchester and the 30-30 all have centuries or about to have century old resumes.

Actual Velocity of Underwood in 4.6” is lower than advertised especially with 200gr Hardcast load. They switched powders several years ago and the velocity droppped. The 220gr load is the best in velocity and closest to advertised of 1200fps. Both are still respectable. Their Hardcast is 18 BHN very similar to Buffalo Bore. I prefer 20BHN to ...
thekoch said: What is so great about the .45 is the stopping power. This just isn't true. Any standard defensive pistol/revolver cartridge - .380ACP thru 45ACP (with the 9mm, .38 Special, .357Magnum in between) is not a man stopper and most certainly not a bear stopper - short of a bullet in the cranial cavity.
I bought my Marlin .45-70 about 8-9 years ago, for $325 or $350, but it came with 2 scopes, about 60 rounds of .45-70 and about 500 rounds of .223 softpoints. Right now a brand new Marlin 1895G .45-70 at Bud's is $630-730 (blue or stainless). Those are Bud's most expensive - the longer barrelled .45-70's are under $600.

What I can't see is, this 41GL being any better performance wise than the 450BM after doing a bunch of load data work. Bear Creek is pushing the 240 grain solid at 2600 fps. The 41GL is pushing the same weight bullet slower than 2600. The BC is higher on the .45 than the .41.
