In 1875, the parish was carved out of the parish of Holy Trinity Church, Stockton-on-Tees. [2] The original church was built of wood and stone. [2] The current church was built from 1880 to 1881, and is constructed from red brick with stone dressings. [1] It was consecrated on 13 October 1881.
