My SIL looked into We Buy Ugly Houses. She had originally bought the house for $85K, owed around $21K on it and most recently it appraised for $140K. We Buy Ugly Houses offered her $65K for the house. She ended up going with a realtor and listed it for $95K which was a bargain in her area. The house sold within a week

The we buy houses people are in it for profit, they aren't going to pay you fair market value. They buy houses for a price that they can sell it to another investor who also wants to make a profit. So they will pay a low price. Do not agree to any deal where they start making your mortgage payments and you sign a quit claim deed.

why houses are so ugly >> You must be kidding. The vast majority of housing in Europe is God-awful, tiny, and made without imagination or style. You need to compare apples with apples. Upper end homes in the US can more than hold their own. and cheap made? I mean, in Europe we use brick and stones to build a house, here they are made out of wood.

It's become a trend in my neighborhood, where just about all of the houses were built in the 1940's/1950's and are small ranches around 800-1200 sq feet in size for old houses to be torn down and are replaced with these hideous, generic, over-sized two-floor new houses that are completely out of proportion for the streets they are on.

Six houses for sale on the same street seems suspicious. I live in one of the hottest real estate markets in the country right now (Dallas), and in one of the top hot areas there. There have been a number of houses for sale over the past year, but I've never seen as many as six on the same street for sale. But it could happen.

Its simply because building with wood is faster and cheaper, construction companies put no effort into designing nice houses, they build houses in mass production for a quick profit, they use plastic pipes (i have friends who work in construction so i know) and roofs that need to be fixed every 20-30 years, but they do put some nice touches ...
