also i think you should talk to your realtor about lowering the price before just completely losing your butt by selling to the we buy ugly houses folks. the market is down but it hasn't completely dried up. there are buyers out there and your property needs to be listed competitively with other similar properties in the area.

It's become a trend in my neighborhood, where just about all of the houses were built in the 1940's/1950's and are small ranches around 800-1200 sq feet in size for old houses to be torn down and are replaced with these hideous, generic, over-sized two-floor new houses that are completely out of proportion for the streets they are on.
Six houses for sale on the same street seems suspicious. I live in one of the hottest real estate markets in the country right now (Dallas), and in one of the top hot areas there. Its simply because building with wood is faster and cheaper, construction companies put no effort into designing nice houses, they build houses in mass production for a quick profit, they use plastic pipes (i have friends who work in construction so i know) and roofs that need to be fixed every 20-30 years, but they do put some nice touches ...
